Overview
In this article, we'll guide you through AbleNet's custom keyguard request process, explain how to order a keyguard for your QuickTalker Freestyle and provide helpful tips along the way.
What is a Custom keyguard for your QuickTalker Freestyle?
A keyguard is a physical accessory, typically made of durable plastic, designed to fit over the surface of a touchscreen. It features cutouts aligned with a device's buttons or touch targets, helping users with limited motor control or limited vision press the correct keys or icons. Adding structure around each button or icon prevents accidental touches and makes it easier for users to target the correct areas, improving accessibility and accuracy when interacting with the device. keyguards are often customized to fit the layout of the device's desired speech app, ensuring that users can comfortably and confidently use the device without unintended selections.
What AAC speech Apps Can be used with a keyguard?
Most speech apps are compatible with custom Ablenet keyguards. Since Ablenet keyguards are tailored specifically to your app and device's layout, we can create one that matches your exact needs, regardless of your speech app or layout.
However, keyguards are not suitable for apps with highly dynamic or changing layouts. Keyguards are precision-cut to fit a single-screen layout, meaning they cannot adapt to frequently changing layouts. For this reason, we don't recommend using keyguards with apps that feature moving or highly variable elements.
Ablenet can provide as many keyguards as needed for your specific use case. However, using multiple keyguards for the same layout is not recommended, which can lead to a less-than-ideal user experience.
